Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains how Petlio ("Petlio", "we", "us") handles information when you use the Petlio mobile application (the "App"). We built Petlio to keep your pet's life organized while collecting as little personal data as possible. By using the App you agree to this policy.
The short version: Petlio works offline-first. Your pet records live on your device and — if you sign in — in your private cloud account. We never sell your data. Ads and AI features only run with the providers and consents described below.

1. Who we are
Petlio is an independent mobile application for pet care. For any privacy question you can reach us at info@petlio.pet. For users in the EEA/UK, the Petlio developer acts as the data controller for the limited personal data described here.
2. What we collect
Most of what you put into Petlio (pet names, breeds, weights, vaccine dates, notes, photos) is content you create. We process the following categories:

Device permissions
The App requests permissions only when a feature needs them, and each is optional:
- Camera & photos — to add pet pictures. Photos stay in your account/device.
- Calendar — to write and update pet-care reminders in your device calendar.
- Biometrics (Face ID / fingerprint) — to lock private albums. Biometric data never leaves your device and is handled by your operating system; Petlio never sees it.
- Notifications — to remind you about upcoming care tasks.
3. How we use your data
- To provide core features: storing and displaying your pet records.
- To sync and back up your data when you are signed in.
- To send reminders and notifications you set up.
- To process Premium purchases and apply entitlements.
- To display and measure ads in the free tier, subject to your consent.
- To diagnose crashes and improve reliability.
We do not sell your personal data, and we do not use your pet records to build advertising profiles.
4. Sharing & third-party services
We share data only with the service providers that make the App work, each under their own privacy terms:
- Google Firebase (Cloud Firestore, App Check, Crashlytics) — cloud storage, security and stability. Firebase privacy.
- Google Sign-In — optional authentication.
- Google AdMob — advertising in the free tier. Google privacy.
- Google Play Billing / Apple In-App Purchase — to process purchases. We receive purchase status, not your card details.
- AI provider — the text of your Petlio AI questions is processed to generate a reply (see §6).
Petlio Match: if you opt in to Match, the profile details you choose to share (such as your pet's name, photo and the information you publish) become visible to other Petlio users you connect with. Don't publish anything you wouldn't want others to see. You can stop using Match at any time.
5. Ads & consent
The free tier shows ads through Google AdMob. Before any personalized ad is requested:
- In the EEA, UK and Switzerland, we show a Google-certified consent (UMP) form so you can accept or refuse personalized ads.
- On iOS, we show Apple's App Tracking Transparency prompt. If you decline, ads still work — they are simply non-personalized.
- You can change or withdraw consent at any time from the App's settings.
You never have to watch ads to use core features. Premium features can be unlocked either by subscribing or, if you prefer, by watching an optional rewarded ad.
6. Petlio AI
When you use the Petlio AI assistant, the question you type is sent securely to our server and then to an AI provider to generate a response. Requests are protected by Firebase App Check. Please avoid including sensitive personal information in AI questions, and treat AI answers as general guidance — not a substitute for a licensed veterinarian.
7. Storage & security
Local data is stored on your device. If you sign in, your data is stored in Google Firebase data centers under Google's security controls. We use Firebase App Check and standard encryption in transit to protect requests. No method of storage or transmission is 100% secure, but we take reasonable measures to safeguard your information. We keep your data for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the App; you can delete it at any time (see §8).
8. Your rights & choices
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, export or delete your personal data, and to object to or restrict certain processing. You can:
- Edit or delete pet records directly in the App.
- Delete your account and associated cloud data — see our Data & Account Deletion page.
- Manage ad consent in App settings.
- Contact us at info@petlio.pet to exercise any right.
9. Children
Petlio is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age in your country). We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If you believe a child has provided us data, contact us and we will delete it.
10. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the App evolves. We'll revise the "Last updated" date above and, for material changes, provide notice in the App. Continued use after changes means you accept the updated policy.
